Outback Trek: Hebel Town Dreamtime

Roaming the Never Never
an ancient and sacred land
where the secreted past
paves over a haunted future
Lingering upon the red desert sand
crimes not forgotten
A whisper from the Dreamtime
asking …
“Can all things be forgiven?”

So What! . . .
Yes, I confess,
I checked into that Hebel Hotel.
“How many nights?”
That, I just can’t tell,
for life is not a one night stand.
The Hotel Manager just nodded,
“I think I understand”.
Outside, It is hotter than hell.
Reeling from the feeling
to urgently get cool
or die in the trying
I went out the back to check out
the “Luxury Olympic Size Pool!”

But the pool was a bit dirty
and full of creatures thirsty.

The Manager yelled out,
“Don’t be a damn fool,
them crocs are hungry!
If you hopped in there
you’d be tin fruited (canned?)
like brown bread, Fred (dead).
They’d be on you like seagulls
on potato chips (rather quickly)”.

So I went to the laundry
to wash my clothes down,
but the water was being rationed
in old Hebel Town.

Where the ‘Dunny'(lavatory)
is a hole in the ground.
Better take a newspaper,
it’s bound to come in handy.

Even the bugs around here

in need of a pedicure

go direct for the jugular!
My executive suite
a donger (portable cabin)
had an air conditioner
(Only $75 a night … Cheap)
The bed was an army stretcher
(a relic of the war in Crimea)
upon which I fell
into a deep and dark
dream filled sleep 😴🕶️

Next thing I’m drafting
behind a semitrailer
on some astral highway
in a Ford V8Pilot from 1948
This car then informs me
telepathically
or was it mechanically 🤔🕶️
that the name of the game
within a road trip dream
is … “The Jig is Up!”
But it’ll take more
than fire and water
to ever get
this old chasis clean 😎

  1. David, thank you for inviting us into your journey in the uniquely masterful and creative way that only you could. Your art is so distinctive, so compelling, so different from anything I have ever seen or read.

      1. I don’t think what you do can be put in a category. It truly is like nothing else. You will have to find a new word, perhaps one of your own making, to describe your brand of creativity!

      1. It’s O.K. Bojana.
Crocodiles are a protected species here.
No Hunting. Some are farmed for meat
        and leather. I needed a new belt so . . .
But, I’ve never eaten one. Which is more
than the crocs can say. Several people
a year get eaten by crocs here in Oz.

    1. And thank you for the gift of your poetry.
Your site seems to be the elusive Shangri-La
of WordPress. Myth, Miss … or both?
I very much appreciate your most positive
      feedback. Thank you 😎

      1. David I just signed on, and here I find a sweet as can be message from your friendly way! David, Shangri La!? I have no readers. No stats. I actually signed on to delete my blog. And that’s alright. I was nudged by friends to share my poetry with others. I’m a bit embarrassed that I am so disliked. Though off line thank goodness for the opposite! Thank you so much for your kind words! And by the way.I really get a kick out of your friend ‘Stella’! Her poetry is often heartfelt, and wild!
        And I am a Miss! 🌺🙂

      2. Yes, Stella is a poetic force of nature.
WordPress is the online place to publish,
according to my software engineering son.
Yet it functions like ‘social media’, posing
a dilemma for the introverted creatives.
I find it hard at times to keep up with the
interaction, so it’s good to take a break now
and then (without apology or explanation).

      3. David, if I may add…my poetry is who I am, my heart. I know I don’t write as often as so many of the other writers do. Life is very busy in my neck of the woods. I care very much about people, and the wellness of their hearts and minds. And it saddens me that people are so afraid to be themselves. My writing is about everyone, experiences, and my own outcomes! I just know this world can be turned around in a positive way! People are hurtingng, and struggling, and starving for acceptance and love! I wish my poems could helped in some small way!
Be happy in your living! 😀

      4. I believe uplifting poetry, such as yours,
can be a doorway to the spiritual. To a
higher reality, where we can be Superheroes
… in truth. Just as God spoke the Universe
into existence. Never doubt the power of
the spoken, and sublimely woven, word to
move mountains, and stir forces into action.

      5. Bless your heart! My goodness, thank you ever so much! David, I’m just a regular gal, who has been through so much in the past. Now comfortable, and living my dream! I’ll just add this, everything you just wrote after your beautiful comment, is so True. Maybe in a few months I may share something absolutely spectacular with the WP community! David, just imagine if people could settle down a bit and breathe, really breathe!? Thank you again!♥️ Change can be positive! It’s Time! People are tired!

      6. To be led beside the quiet deep waters
        … always a choice.
        After many decades of resistance,
I now “lie in green pastures”.
I’ve just spent time in the Meta City of Delhi.
The extremes of poverty and privilege is beyond
obscene, as the rat race dance is played out
at full pace. The air is toxic, and discarded
plastic is a national disgrace. But, we in the
West, led them on this merry dance.

      7. Yes David so much suffering in the world. I can barely bare it! And you’re right, the West is guilt ridden! It only takes one person to help another! I gave away a quarter of a small fortune, Now helping hands and compassion everyday until the end of my life! I have amazing story’s of just changing a moment in people lives. Moments don’t last, but compassion sure does!
Writers are a powerful tool! I think raw truth is a way for cause and effect? But from the heart, a gentle way. A beautiful friend once told me…”If I eat, you eat”. She fed so many young people! And she was living on hard times. Thank again David for adding a smile to my day!
