Earth to Mars
My husband
is again missing
deep in cyber space
He was last seen
orbiting Mars
whilst writing a poem
Does Elon Musk know
that my X Man
Captain Lex Icon
got there first?
Now I’ve lost all trace!
Is he missing me
somewhere out there?
Hunting and collecting
amongst those
aliens and goblins
in his alternative universe
with their ink tipped claws
as they scratch
each other’s backs
with quotes of wisdom
or worse
depending on their mood
a verse diverse
and often perverse
I don’t mean to be rude
or to sound terse
for it is their chosen food
Regurgitating the past
and masticating the future
with illusions so vast
Night and day
from haunted dreams
to visions of splendour
with all the extremes
in between
his thoughts meander
Is that him I hear
swaggering like Jagger
through my front door?
Or just some rebel
yelling out …
No …
so if you see him
the one wearing
a snakeskin belt
and a very dirty
old oilskin coat
please tell him that
there’s a launch pad
vacant and waiting
just for him
My poetic delinquent
and runaway stray
somewhere out there
lost in the Milky Way
~ Linda Redpath ยฉ 2018-21
Mars to Venus ๐น
My maiden fair
of perpetual bliss
who’s sweet charms
I can never resist
The course
I must navigate
has already been set
Am I becoming
the cyber hermit
with observations
from a distant planet?
My loving Venus
I am ever a captive
under your influence
The cosmic tide
upon which we ride
has a heavenly permit
It leads me
it keeps me
in a celestial transit
Yet … as I toil
in creation’s soil
a mere human
am I being fully spent
with nothing left
upon love’s shelf
but words hard pressed
like virgin oil
from the ripened flesh
of life itself?
Words put to the test
in the fires of Hades
at it’s chaotic best
then heaven blessed
upon your lips
with a poetic breath
Am I caught
in a cyber crush?
Am I just chasing a rush?
Your sublime happiness
that place
of divinely
satiated lust
for me is a must
I once had my head
locked in the vice
of interstellar ice
Too high the price
and it wasn’t very nice
Is there a peril
in rolling the dice
at a poetic level?
With you
hand in hand
and the Spirit true
I can withstand any battle
Sweet Gypsy Queen
my true star sign
have you ever seen
all that has been
in one pure drop
from a golden dream?
Have you harvested
a golden crop
in the wasteland of the lost?
Can you savour
that taste of victory
since counting the cost
with the Saviour
of human destiny?
You know the Word
ever spoken
yet seldom heard
is deep within me
For I am surrounded
by divisive opinions
being spoon fed
to hungry minions
from strange dominions
with seductive
and magical potions
Toxins in the grave
of promises all broken
My reborn Venus
should I cease
and desist?
I am a slave
to your satisfaction
My lonely lover
have I left you
to thirst for that burst
from where true love
forever comes first
In the raging fire
of your desire
I put myself last
Forgive me my absence
In true love
. . . I am ever
your soul apprentice
For your call to enthral
I find so hard to resist
