I Long To Fly Away

I’ve got these
Corona Virus Blues
right down to the bottom
of my ramblin’ shoes
I long to fly away
along with the young
the careless
and the carefree
To become a V. I. P.
… a Virus Immune Person
To then play in the sea
and bask under a tropical sun
In a land where safe sex
doesn’t require rubber gloves
a face mask
and a surgical gown

I’ve done everything
a poor boy can
aboard a cancelled cruise
(You Cruise … You Lose!)
I’ve washed my hands
I’ve kissed all the icons
from Rome to Tehran
I’ve even cast the bones
with my personal shaman
Yet that COVID-19
it just keeps on spreading
and mutating

We are all in it together
So yes … clap for carers
But I long to fly away
to somewhere nicer
with a much brighter future
But for now it seems
I’m never gonna lose
these Corona Virus Blues

      1. I went to London
to visit the Queen, . . . But,
        Prince Philip nearly ran me
        over in his mobility machine!
Had a chat with Prince Charles
at a garden party. With Camilla
making a right royal scene 🐴
Then went to dinner with Boris,
        the Big Swinging Johnson,
        since Prince Andy the Randy
        was doing an interview with
        Teen Magazine 😎
I’m now back home safe and
        sound, quietly self isolating 🙊
        Thanks for asking, Charlie 🙏

      2. Don’t go kissing any religious icons,
Charlie. I’ve already done it on your
behalf 😇 Especially, don’t go licking
microphones 🎤 So don’t just phone
        home telephone ☎️ stay home 🏡 😎

    1. We can leave this current
      pestilence far behind 🏝️
in the freedom of the sublime.
      Just don’t forget to bolt
      your front door 🚪
and pull down the blind 🙈

      Thanks Nadine 🙏
      for taking the time⌚
      to read the venting
      of a fevered mind 😎

      1. I hope they do,
        and that you continue
        to do, too; 😇
        for laughter is the best
        medicine, they say
        that’s true. 😄✅
        So laugh, and let
        your inner-loving
        poet, keep shining
        on through. 💚🔆

      2. My inner poet
        is on life support
        in the literary ICU unit
        It’s a chaotic poetic crime
        But his nurse 👩‍🔬
        is a good sort
        So I’m sure she will
        have him up and about
        in no time ⌚ 😎

      3. Awww. This is so sweet
        and charming,
        I’ve got no answering
        rhyme.
I will only pray that your
        good nurse
        has you on the mend
        in good time. ⏳😚👨‍🔬

        Seems we’re gearing up
        for somethin’ else.
Who knows what, but whatever it is
        I pray it’s heaven, 🙏👼
        and not hell’s bells. ;)) 😈🚫

  4. Great blues song summing up our times, David.
And that hole outside Earl’s Court Station seems to have become a swirling vortex metamorphosing into an itcthyosaur with an angry disposition.
    Great artwork there, David.

    1. Thanks Chris 🙏
I learnt everything I know about
      the blues from Uncle Ernie.
He performs under the stage name
      ‘Blind Lemon Pseudonym’.
He has this gift that when he starts
      singing, everybody gets the blues.
      That vortex appearing outside
Earl’s Court Station turned out to
be a wormhole that led directly to
the inscrutable Mr. Inn Lu’s liar
      in downtown Sydney. With my
      flight out of Heathrow cancelled,
turned out to be the only way back
      to Australia, most fortuitously.
Things have been a bit hectic
recently, but I’ll pop in for a visit
      imminently. Just as soon as
Mr. Inn Lu releases me. He’s
      currently working on some
      experimental antiviral drugs, and
I’m the guinea pig. When he asked
if I’d like some Corona, I thought
he was offering me a beer.
      I wouldn’t mind, but I’m slowly
turning green, and my back is
      getting hairy! 🤢

    1. My old mate , Bazza McKenzie, had
      such a wonderful and adventurous
time staying there, they made a movie
about it. Starring Dame Edna Everage!
      Plus, after flying 17,000 kilometres
away from down under, what better
than getting together with a bunch
of expats for a beer? 🍺

    1. When power leads man toward arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man’s concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
      ~John F. Kennedy

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal,
      and history only the particular.

  5. Me too. So grateful I finally broke out of my mind prison in August 2018 or my grief would be unbearable right now. Even after that I rarely ventured out. Now, I’m in that “at-risk” category that will be the last allowed to go. We can dream though. You helped me stay sane with your beautiful photos from around the world. Thank you, David. ♥.

  6. Corona Bug Blues
It was early one morning, corona bug was knockin’ on my door (2x)
I said go away you devil, and don’t come back no more
I’m gonna build myself a cave, an’ move on down in the ground (2x)
Corana ain’t gonna get me, gonna stay away from any crowd
    I went to the supermarket
I saw nothing but empty shelves
I need some toilet paper baby
    I’m about to shit myself
Oh Lord, you can tell the panic is on
Get yourself ready people, caus’ here’s the corona storm
I’m gonna tell you good people, how to beat that ugly bug
You got to stay at home, and hide under your rug
