Of Cotton & Things Rotten

‘Poetry of America –
The Cosmic Athletes’
~ by Salvador Dali

Everybody knows
that the dice are loaded.
Everybody rolls
with their fingers crossed.
Everybody knows the war is over.
Everybody knows the good guys lost.
Everybody knows the fight was fixed.
The poor stay poor, the rich get rich.
That’s how it goes.
Everybody knows.

And everybody knows
that it’s now or never.
Everybody knows
that it’s me or you.
And everybody knows
that you live forever,
ah, when you’ve done a line or two.
Everybody knows the deal is rotten.
Old Black Joe’s still pickin’ cotton
for your ribbons and bows.
And everybody knows.

both dished up on the one plate.

where the profits are great!

  1. Your title made me smile, never heard that Leonard Cohen song, wow, very cool… but the artwork though!!! Political commentary astute, but the angler one was my favourite, dark and bluetiful too. Talented are you ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ โ˜€๏ธ๐ŸŒ—๐ŸŽจ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐ŸŽจ

    1. Thank you muchly & deeply, Lia ๐Ÿฌ
I started to paint the Angler picture
for my son who likes to fish ๐ŸŸ but
it seemed to take on a life of it’s own
      as it wriggled about!? ๐Ÿก ๐Ÿ˜Ž ๐Ÿ™

      1. Funny how art gets like that, and sometimes with very big teeth too ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ‘Œ Keep being brilliant, you ๐Ÿ˜š๐ŸŒป๐Ÿ’•

        that turtles are very modest.
        Unlike that clown fish ๐Ÿ

    1. Sadly, a strange phenomenon,
      spreading like an infection, from
      the industrialised west. Highly
      processed food, loaded with
      chemical preservatives and
      carbohydrates, yet stripped of
      any nutritional value. In Mexico,
      overweight children are being
      given lap band surgery, whilst
      suffering from malnutrition!

      1. That is crazy…and terribly sad.

I went organic 12 years ago or I source from local farmers that practice organic but, aren’t certified. I can’t get raw milk but, I can get raw cheese. I try to avoid all sugar and that is a chore.

  2. I have a Leonard Cohen CD that includes “Everybody Knows.” Sadly, the deal is more rotten than ever. Your artwork is so on point, particularly “The Missionary . . . San Pepsi.” It really is unconscionable what the big food corporations are doing to vulnerable people’s health for the sake of profit. Food justice is definitely needed in our world.

    1. Poverty is seen as a financial
      opportunity by the Multinational
      Food Conglomeration. In the
developing world, much like in their
own urban backyards, they use a
      strategy of eliminating competition,
like fresh food markets, leaving the
way clear for “Mini Marts” to take
over the local food supply, pushing
      their industrialised poison.

    1. Thank you, Suzanne ๐Ÿ™
You can’t go far wrong getting on
      the Leonard Cohen wavelength ๐Ÿ˜Ž

      “Suzanne takes you down
to her place near the river.
You can hear the boats go by,
you can spend the night forever.
And you know that she’s half-crazy
but that’s why you want to be there.
And she feeds you tea and oranges
that come all the way from China.
And just when you mean to tell her
that you have no love to give her.
Then he gets you on her wavelength.
And she lets the river answer
that you’ve always been her lover
And you want to travel with her,
and you want to travel blind.
And you know that she will trust you.
For you’ve touched her perfect body
      with your mind.”

    1. Thank you ๐Ÿ™
      I should let Leonard do
      the responding, Luiza . . .

      The birds they sang
      At the break of day
      Start again
      I heard them say
      Don’t dwell on what
      Has passed away
Or what is yet to be
      Yeah the wars they will
      Be fought again
      The holy dove
      She will be caught again
      Bought and sold
      And bought again
      The dove is never free
      Ring the bells
      that still can ring
      Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack in everything
That’s how the light gets in
