I just don’t care
who you follow
the stuff that you say
and what you think
that you know
In the deepest despair
from way down below
through haunted streets
I’ve driven that manic
and heavy traffic
to a place where
even the light retreats
And I’ve known
the sweetest caress
of a gentle whisper
that roared like a tempest
through my very soul
Have those things
that you begged
borrowed and stolen
and the approval
for which you’ve striven
all taken a heavy toll?
So, no . . .
I don’t care
who you follow
what you’ve laid bare
or what you’ve taken
Can all those things
ever make you whole?
No … I don’t care
where you’ve been
I don’t care
who you’ve seen
I just don’t care
who you follow
the stuff that you say
and what you think
that you know
I’ll love you anyway
and go against the flow
~ David B. Redpath © 2018-2020
“I can’t run no more
with that lawless crowd
while the killers in high places
say their prayers out loud.
But they’ve summoned,
they’ve summoned up
a thundercloud, and
they’re going to hear from me.
Ring the bells that still can ring.
Forget your perfect offering.
There is a crack,
a crack in everything.
That’s how the light gets in.”
~ Leonard Cohen
“But I tell you, love your enemies
and pray for those who persecute
you, that you may be children of
your Father in heaven. He causes
his sun to rise on the evil and
the good, and sends rain on the
righteous and the unrighteous.”
~ Jesus

“Love is all there is,
it makes the world go ’round.
Love and only love, it can’t be denied
No matter what you think about it
you just won’t be able to do without it.
Take a tip from one who’s tried.”
~ Bob Dylan

Nice day for a Mayan Wedding

A nice day to start again

Beautiful artwork and poem. I also love to go against the flow. Interestingly enough – while the first person narrator of your poem goes against the flow, doesn’t care about many things, but loves that person anyway -, your whole poem takes a genuine flow and rhythm, your personal style. It sounds very musical, with occasional rhyming that still has echoes of the beat poets like Kerouac.
