A Stairway To Oblivion
My childhood home . . .
is now the “Elsewhere Bar”! 🤔🕶️
. . . that’s what I call doors 😎
“If the doors of perception were
cleansed 🌊🚪 everything would
appear to man as it is, infinite ♾️”
~ William Blake
“Behold, I stand at the door, and knock:
if any man hear my voice, and open
the door, I will come in to him, and
will dine with him, and he with me.”
~ Revelations 3:20

Thank you, Satyam 🙏 That last
photograph was taken in the gardens
of the Abdul Rahim Khan-i-Khanan
tomb in New Delhi.

Nice knocker you had you hand on. Beautiful, monumental Architecture. Old home is a bar? Interesting change.

Thanks for checking out my
‘Friday’s Knockers’ offering 🙏
Yes, If only that bar had been
there way back then, when
I sure could’ve used a drink!🥃
Cheers Timothy 🍻😎

Thanks John 🙏
I’ve heard it said that
as one door closes
another one opens 🤔🕶️

I’ve never understood the need for such giant doors! Who are they expecting?

They’re to let defending armies out,
and keep the barbarian armies from
coming in. As long as they remember to
lock the darn things all the invaders can
do is keep on knocking at them doors, Jan 😎

Greatly appreciated, Iris 🙏
Poetry should have an open door
policy, but sadly . . .

Knock knock! There’s someone there
Now I’m going to have to comb my hair
I’m gonna open my door, to infinity to beyond
He said on the intercom that he’s from the lost and found.

I have to say Tanmay, in response
my only suggestion was to play
‘Knock Knock Who’s There’ 🎶
by Mary Hopkins. But then, I fear,
some would find it rather queer? 🤔🕶️
Bugger the knockers!
… I’ll play it anyway 😎

A great Aussie band, with a great
Scottish front man, Colin Hay 🏴
Men at Work’s ‘Down Under’ is the
unofficial Australian anthem 🦘

I love that one
It’s so much fun
And there’s even Vegemite
As far as unofficial anthems go, it’s pretty tight

Unfortunately, our cricket team 🏏
can never remember all the words
when the national anthem is sung,
so we’ve had to stick with some
other boring old song 😎💤

The stairway to oblivion, huh? Well-done, anyway!

Those stairs once led to my bed,
but now they take you to some
sleazy bar! No wonder it’s named
the Elsewhere Bar, as I’d rather be
just about anything else, Johnathan.

Stunning doors, great quotes. “The Elswhere Bar?” Is that their way of saying, “Dave’s not here, but why not have a drink?”

In my head there’s a Cheech & Chong
recording saying “Dave’s not here, Man!”
But so far I’ve never gone to that
‘Elsewhere Bar’ no matter how thirsty.
They should put up a commemorative
plaque where my bed use to be, as that
bar is located in my childhood abode
just down the road in Desolation Row.
Thanks for frequenting, Mitch 😎

Glad you got the reference, David. So, along with Cheech & Chong, you apparently grew up listening to Bob Dylan.

Yes, I’m a child of ‘The Great Leap
Backwards’, where you had to start
swimming or you’d sink into a deep
stone, with Cheech & Chong there
to provide an all round education 😵💫🕶️

I remember a prompt on WP asking people to write about doors. Doors are fascinating things. Whether you’re a fantasy lover or not, you are enetering a new world when you open a door.

Aldous Huxley suggested much the
same thing, if I remember correctly.
But be sure to leave the door ajar,
and cross the threshold cautiously.
Not every doorway leads to Valhalla,
Shangri-La, or Nirvana for that matter.

Love the quote by William Blake. The photographs are lovely. Doors are huge. 😮

The big iron reinforced doors are
in Malaga, Spain, for keeping out the
invading Moors from North Africa.
The more things change, the more
they stay the same, Kritika 🤔🕶️

It’s a world so used to places you’re not supposed to go in,
and places you’re not to leave until you’re told,
and passwords and combinations…
it’s now so easy to miss the joy of passing from place to place,
of exploring the textures which shift from one side of the road to the other…
looking up and seeing the “wow” staring back.
So easy to turn the magic off, until suddenly there is a neon sign over what was once your waterhole, your star-fuelled waterfall, and the jumping-off point for a small galaxy of secret migrations has become a place of forgetting.
Doors… our way out into the astounding.

Thanks for crossing the threshold
and refreshing the perception of this
wide open comments section 🙏😎
In a world broken by the tragic
many forget all about the magic
closing their ears to the poetic
closing their hearts to the romantic
closing their minds to the mystery
Life is a privilege
when touched by heavenly love
and should always be
a perpetual celebration
rich in celestial revelation
with imagination
the God given key 🗝️
free from the weight of hate
and the heavy hand of fate
that has driven human history
to a state of abject misery
where doors are bolted shut
with fearfulness from the madness
of mindless hostility
